Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
As one of the signature attractions at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run was designed to be ambitious from the start. My role on the project grew over 5 years. I started with a focus on interactivity in the cockpit, but grew to become the Senior Concept Designer and Art Director for the immersive queue.
My responsibility was to develop the look and feel of the spaces Guests see as they move through Batuu's Spaceport and onto the iconic Millennium Falcon. This process began with me creating design intent models. Once approved, I worked with a larger team of production designers, mechanical engineers, show managers, painters, and show set designers to oversee the shop drawing, shop review, and installation efforts.
This experience allowed me to work directly with Lucasfilm Story Group's Carrie Beck and Lucasfilm Creative Director Doug Chiang to ensure the story we are telling, and how we are telling it was consistent with the larger narratives in the Star Wars universe.
This is the first attraction experience that actually remembers you. If you have experienced the attraction before, the characters will respond differently. As part of this design, we needed to develop a new way of detecting and persisting Guests interactions. I received a patent for this design that can be found here at the link below.
This attraction was awarded Outstanding Achievement - Attraction by the Themed Entertainment Association.
